Al-Rafidain TV, 21 April 2011: Azad Abu-Bakr Zeinal and Majed Esmaeel Mohammad, two Iraqi MPs from the Kurdish alliance, condemned the use of force against Ashraf residents by Nouri Maliki’s forces and requested their rights to be observed.
Iraqi News Agency website: Expressing regret on Iraqi forces’ attack against Ashraf residents, Azad Abu-Bakr Zeinal said: “Ashraf residents have lived in Camp Ashraf for years, and it was given that the government would use peaceful means for dialogue with them. However, the Iraqi government understands nothing but the language of force and it has made a mistake in its behavior towards Ashraf residents. This is the same method the Iraqi government uses in regards to the Iraqi people’s peaceful demonstrations.”
“This is the right of Ashraf residents to seek their human rights at any legal institute or court, let it be Arabic or international,” he said. “Bringing this case before Parliament in these conditions will ease the trend of holding those responsible in this attack accountable and recompensing those who have been damaged.”
Majed Esmaeel Mohammad said in a press comment, “I have suffered from being a refugee in the past. Therefore, I am against using force against any refugee, regardless of the fact what political opinions they may have or in what country they may be.”
