Supporters for Change urged Baghdad to humane treatment towards Camp Ashraf residents

NINA News Agency, Baghdad, 27 Nov 2011 – The Association of Supporters for Change called on Maliki’s government to practice humane practices towards Camp Ashraf residents based on international standards until a legal solution for this dossier is reached.
“With the end of the year nearing, bringing an end to the timetable set by the government to expel Ashraf residents, concerns rise over irresponsible behavior by government and security officials against these refugees,” this association announced in statement released today.
“Despite the deadline set by the government to expel these refugees, this issue consists of legal and humane mistakes,” this statement added. “However, we hope the government respects the humane aspects of this case and takes into consideration the presence of women, children and the elderly among these residents.”
“Any kind of erratic behavior against Ashraf residents by security elements will tarnish the Iraqi government’s image among the international community and this is something we do not see in the Iraqi government’s dignity,” the statement continued. “This government must be the first state in implementing democracy and act based on human rights covenants.”
