Palestinian, Moroccan committees call on UN chief to protect Ashraf

Impelling Maliki’s government to cancel the illegal deadline
Necessity of stationing international monitors in Ashraf

In a letter to the UN Secretary General, the Palestinian Committee in Defense of Ashraf and the Moroccan Freeborn Movement wrote:

Dear Mr. Ban Ki-moon,
Considering the statement of the UN High Commission for Refugees and the recognition of Ashraf residents’ legal status, this claim that Ashraf residents in Iraq have no legal status is out of the question and the Iraqi government must recognize Ashraf residents’ legal status.
Iraqi Prime Minister Maliki’s insistence on the deadline against Ashraf is a great challenge against international laws, and it has enraged the international community and human rights organizations.
We are asking you as the UN Secretary-General to compel the Iraqi government to accept international laws especially in regards to Ashraf residents. It is necessary for the UN to station in Ashraf, and for Camp Ashraf to be announced as a civil zone under permanent UN monitoring and without any Iraqi armed forces.
In these efforts the international community will support you to have the Iraqi government cancel the illegal deadline and blockade on Ashraf as soon as possible, and remove the means of psychological torturing of Ashraf residents by Iranian regime intelligence agents through loudspeakers installed surrounding the camp.
