In a letter to Congressman Howard Berman, chairman of the United States House Foreign Affairs Committee, Professor Richard Roberts, Nobel Laureate in Medicine in 1993, expressed his support for the Resolution 704 that has the support of a bi-partisan House majority for the humanitarian rights and protection of residents of Camp Ashraf in Iraq and urged him for all possible speed on this resolution.
The text of Professor Robert’s letter is as follows:
April 21, 2010
Congressman Howard Berman
Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee
U.S. House of Representatives
Washington, D.C. 20515
Dear Congressman Berman:
I am writing to express my concern regarding the fate of the Iranian dissidents that are housed in Camp Ashraf in Iraq.
I understand that the conditions there are deteriorating and that forces from Iraq have been attacking residents and even abducting some. This is really an intolerable situation and so I was very pleased to hear that House Resolution 704 had been introduced which has gained strong support within the House and should be very helpful in persuading the Iraqi forces to behave properly.
I am writing at this time to urge you to ensure that immediate passage of this resolution takes place so that the residents of Camp Ashraf can rest more easily. I would urge you and your colleagues in the House to move with all possible speed on this resolution.
Yours sincerely,
Sir Richard Roberts Ph.D., F.R.S.
