New York sit-in to support Ashraf continues – Day 14

On the 14th day of Iranians’ sit-in outside UN headquarters in New York in support of Ashraf residents’ rights, the participants saluted sit-in participants in Geneva and expressed their solidarity with them.

In the beginning, the call by 600 Iranians outside Iran including political and human rights activists, and poets and writers in exile in support of Ashraf residents was read.

Reverent Charles delivered his speech and said: your movement has been has been treated by unjust and baseless terrorist designation and that is why we pray in our weekly prayers for Ashraf residents and we are sure that one day your rightfulness would become clear for all.

Mr. Nicholas Vernon, deputy of WMD Non-Proliferation Committee said in his speech: Rest assured that you will enjoy our society’s continued support for establishment of democracy in Iran; I support Ashraf residents’ rights and I have come here to announce that in the fragile situation of Iraq, protection of your sisters, brothers and friends should be guaranteed.

Then the letter of Congresswoman Susan Davis of California addressing the MNF-I Commander was read which partly read: The United States has recognized status of Ashraf men and women as “protected persons”. While Bush administration continues negotiation with the Iraqi government on the new the state of forces agreement, I strongly urge you to consider protection of Ashraf men and women.
