Iranian opposition: Hunger strike in Camp Liberty, 5 countries enter 5th week

NCRI – Wednesday, October 2, marks the 32nd day of the hunger strike by Camp Liberty residents, protesting the massacre and mass execution in Camp Ashraf. They are demanding immediate release of the seven residents of Ashraf taken hostage and that security to be provided for Liberty residents by the United Nations.

Conditions of many of the residents on hunger strike are dire and many are hospitalized. They have lost 7 to 11 kilograms in weight and are facing various side-effects such as loss of eyesight, loss of hearing, intestinal disorders, dizziness, pains in their muscles and stones, hair loss and …

Among those on hunger strike are the mothers, fathers, children and other family members of the martyrs and hostages of the September 1 massacre of members of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI.MEK) in Camp Ashraf.

Simultaneously, Iranians in the cities of Geneva, London, Berlin, Ottawa, and Melbourne are also on hunger strike. The hunger strikers are in critical physical conditions and are suffering from various problems, with many of them being sent to hospitals on a daily basis.

The U.S. and U.N. have been silent and have resorted to inaction regarding the heinous crime at Ashraf and taking seven residents as hostage by Maliki’s murderers and towards the pain and suffering of the hunger -strikers and have not had any adequate and serious response.
While reminding the legal and official commitments of the US and UN regarding the safety and security of residents of Ashraf, calls for their immediate intervention for immediate release of the hostages and guaranteeing the safety and security of the residents of Camp Liberty. The U.S. and UN, are doubly responsible towards the safety and well being of Liberty residents who subsequent to five massacres have no other option but resorting to hunger strike.

The Iranian Resistance calls upon countries of the world, in particular European countries, parties, freedom seeking personalities, and human rights advocates to join the campaign for release of seven Camp Ashraf hostages by the Government of Iraq.
Mrs Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the Iranian Resistance, at the Parliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe on September 30 regarding the hostages of Camp Ashraf and the crime against humanity at Ashraf said: “watching in silence is tantamount to approving the crime and caving in to desire of a bloodletting religious fascism.”
