On Monday, 25 June 2012, for the third consecutive day, ‘plain-clothes’ agents, affiliated to the Iraqi Prime Ministry Committee charged with suppression of Ashraf and Liberty residents, prevented the entry of food – including meat, potatoes, tomatoes, onions and fruit – into Camp Liberty.
The residents’ representatives told UN monitors that they have no objection to a search of the freezer truck by the official police and UN monitors. However under the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding ‘plain-clothes’ agents whose affiliation is not clear must not interfere in the camps’ affairs.
The Iranian Resistance once again draws the attention of the UN Secretary General, UN High Commissioner for Refugees, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, the SRSG for Iraq and the US ambassador in Iraq to the dangerous steps that the Iraqi government is taking against the 2000 residents of Liberty and urges them to compel Iraq to abide by International Humanitarian Law and the commitments it gave to the UN.
