Despite Khamenei’s instructions, the infighting intensifies

On the revolution’s anniversary, the Speaker of the Majlis (Parliament) is attacked by the rival faction, and Ahmadinejad warns against election engineering

While Khamenei once again urged the leaders of hostile factions within the regime not to expose differences and stressed: “Authorities, must set aside these misconducts that have been seen in some fields and scenes”, the people of rival factions took on each other on the anniversary of the revolution. In Qom, Ali Larijani, Speaker of the Majlis, was attacked by shoes and prayer stones from the rival faction. They rushed toward him by removing security fences such that he had to flee. These people, some of whom were wearing shroud, started to call Larijani “impercipient privileged” and “Speaker without Velayat” since the beginning of his speech, and disrupted his speech by throwing prayer stones and shoes and clergy shoes.
At the same time, Ahmadinejad in his speech on the occasion of the revolution’s anniversary threatened to expose the rival faction and said: “Some people want to manage and engineer the election. I say with honour that the great nation (of Iran) knows well its course and does not need pretender groups and people. Ethics and law must be observed”. This is while rival factions, blame Khamenei and the Revolutionary Guards to have engineered two previous elections in favour of Ahmadinejad.
In another development, for the first time in Ahmadinejad’ trips, Khamenei refrained from sending a representative to escort him and welcome him back in his trip to Egypt. The regime’s media assessed this as a “warning to Ahmadinejad, particularly after ignoring Khamenei’s warning about the need for not creating differences”. (Asr Iran Newspaper, February 9, 2013)
