23 days of strike by shopkeepers and marketers in Baneh despite repressive measures

Uprising – No. 151

In spite of the threats and hollow promises of the Iranian regime and despite repressive measures, the brave strike of shopkeepers and marketers continued for the twenty-third day on Monday, May 7th, in protest at the closure of the border crossings and increasing the extortion of the regime from the border porters and small businesses.

During the past days, the regime arrested a number of strikers who did not surrender to the pressures of the regime's intelligence ministry and put others under prosecution. On Friday night, May 4, there was a clash between the people and the repressive forces that lasted till morning, during which at least ten protesters were arrested and one of the vehicles of the repressive forces was smashed by the frustrated people.

While saluting the people and the striking shopkeepers and marketers of Baneh, the Iranian Resistance calls for support and solidarity with the border porters and strikers and calls on all international human rights advocates to take immediate action to unconditionally release those detained during these protest moves.
