Iraq Deputy Prime Minister Saleh Mutlak, senior member of the Iraqiya Coalition, issued a statement declaring his all-out opposition to the confiscation of Ashraf residents’ property or forcing them to forgo their assets.
“International laws and customs obligate us to treat Camp Ashraf residents as refugees with dignity and to respect their rights,” the statement reads.
“We must not force them to anything because it is far from the Iraqi people’s traditions to harass anyone that has sought refuge in their country. We continue to consider them as our guests and they must be treated as such,” the Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister emphasized.
“In our opinion, the issue of Iranian citizens is being misused for political purposes despite the fact that it is a humanitarian matter,” he continued.
