Iraqi Umma Party leader Methal al-Alousi announced the United Nations is responsible for the protection of Ashraf.
In a statement recently released, al-Alousi has said despite the fact Camp Liberty was not ready in regards of infrastructure and the enormous pressures being imposed by security measures to limit the residents’ movement, the transfer of 397 Ashraf residents to Liberty was a good will gesture by the camp residents in order to reach a peaceful solution for their own issue.
The UN and especially the Secretary General’s Special Representative to Iraq Martin Kobler are responsible on this issue because they have transferred Ashraf residents to Liberty that is similar to a prison lacking international standards and violating political refugee rights, al-Alousi’s statement adds.
