Italian Foreign Minister Giulio Terzi welcomed the signing of an agreement between the United Nations and Iraqi government that prepares the grounds for the transfer of Camp Ashraf residents.
As stated in the pact, the UNHCR chief has become committed to review the residents’ status for their final and voluntary resettlement in third countries.
In recent weeks, Italy, and the Foreign Minister himself on behalf of the country, has been involved in international cooperation with all countries, including those in Europe, supporting the UN plan for an adequate solution.
“Italy views the signing of this agreement with complete optimism and is very satisfied to see all parties cooperating,” Terzi said in a statement. “With gratitude regarding the Iraqi government’s positive behavior, I urge all to have the necessary cooperation on this agreement, considering the fact that the UN – with a strong motive to obtain humanitarian support – has received guarantees from Iraq and the US.”
The Italian Foreign Minister said he expects this plan to be carried out very sufficiently, orderly and without any incursions.
“It is important for me to especially thank UN Secretary General Special Representative to Iraq Martin Kobler for the personal efforts he placed in this case and finally reached a comprehensive agreement,” Terzi stressed.
