Two organizations defending human rights and women’s rights in Italy, the Organization of International Solidarity With the Culture of Human Rights and the Italian MOICA Movement, in Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (ECOSOC), in separate letters to UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay condemned the inhumane siege and medical restrictions imposed on Ashraf.
Referring to the psychological torture of Ashraf residents through the use of 140 loudspeakers by the Iranian regime’s MOIS agents and its Iraqi elements, the organizations wrote: “We call on the international community, the US and especially the UN to take urgent actions to end the restrictions imposed on Ashraf. The US government is obligated to reassume the protection of Ashraf residents under Article 45 of the Fourth Geneva Convention, and the UN must station a permanent monitoring team in Ashraf.”
