Italy: International Democratic Lawyers Association supports Spanish court ruling against Maliki

The International Democratic Lawyers Association issued a letter to UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay supporting the Spanish court writ against Nouri Maliki and other Iraqi officials responsible for ‘crimes against humanity’ in Ashraf.
“The Spanish National Court issued a ruling dating 11 July 2011 summoning three Iraqi military commanders including the Army Ground Forces commander,” the letter reads. “This court has also announced that Nouri Maliki will be summoned when his immunity as premier expires on leaving office.
“In support of the Spanish court writ to look into ‘crimes against humanity’ in Ashraf, we call on Her Excellency to take the necessary measures to review the protection of Ashraf in the UN Security Council and dispatch UN forces to Ashraf.
“It is also necessary for a delegation to be appointed to conduct an independent investigation into the 8 April 2011 massacre which you have insisted upon.”
