Italian Committee of Parliamentarians and Citizens for a Free Iran asked for release of 36 Ashraf residents

The text of letter of the Italian Committee of Parliamentarians and Citizens for a Free Iran to Iraqi Prime Minister Maliki on the 36 detained Ashraf residents is as follows:

Honourable Nouri al-Maliki
Prime Minister of Iraq
Office of the Prime Minister
Baghdad
Iraq

Rome- September 29, 2009

Dear Prime Minister,

On behalf of the Italian Committee of Parliamentarians and Citizens for a Free Iran compromised of a large number of politicians from all political groups in the Italian Parliament and Senate, I would like to express our deep regret and protest over the continued arrest of 36 Iranian exiles who were arrested on 28 July during the raid on Ashraf Camp.

These 36 have been on hunger strike for over 2 months now and we learnt today that the Iraqi judge in the City of Al-Khalis issued his third and final verdict for their release, ordering the police to return them to Ashraf.

Unfortunately the rule of law seems not to be respected in the new Iraq which is extremely annoying for us who were hoping to see a free and independent Iraq. This is very harmful for the credibility of your government.

We wish to ask you to personally intervene to arrange for the immediate release of these 36 Iranians. To keep them more in prison would result to their death and more tragedy.

We wait for your immediate action and we thank you for your understanding of our concerns.

Yours sincerely,

The President of the Committee, Hon. Carlo Ciccioli
The co-president, Hon. Elisabetta Zamparutti
The coordinator, Antonio Stango
