Iraqi and Arab jurists and nationalistic associations issued statements condemning the illegal measures of Maliki’s government and UN envoy Martin Kobler’s compliance in efforts to confiscate and seize Ashraf and Liberty residents’ properties.

Association of Progressive Lawyers and Jurists:
International and Iraqi laws have a single approach towards Camp Ashraf residents’ moveable and immovable property. Under these laws, the ownership of property belongs to those who are using that property, and these residents are under international protection.

Association of Egyptian Jurists in Defense of Ashraf Residents:
The UN in Iraq, and especially Martin Kobler, has neglected its obligations as an international organization, becoming a tool in the hands of the Iranian government and its envoy in Iraq in order to facilitate the plundering of Camp Ashraf’s property. We call on the UN Secretary-General to appoint another envoy for Iraq with global impartiality in the particular case of Ashraf and Liberty residents.
American-Iraqi Human Rights Organization:
Reports obtained by the American-Iraqi Human Rights Organization indicates the Iraqi government is continuing to confiscate Ashraf residents’ property and supplies, and UNAMI chief Mr. Kobler is imposing intense pressure on Ashraf residents to forgo their ownership rights.
The American-Iraqi Human Rights Organization warns Mr. Kobler on repeating such mistakes that are in violation of international laws, considering such actions as measures endangering the lives of Liberty refugees.

Iraqi Committee in Defense of Ashraf:
UN envoy Martin Kobler has carried out new measures to inflict pressure on Ashraf residents, of whom 100 are now in Ashraf, to sell their property. We call on noble Iraqi nationalistic figures, MPs and tribal sheikhs to protest such actions that tarnish Iraq’s prestige.
Physicians and Academicians Society for Defense of Human Rights:
We call on the Iraqi government to respect the residents regarding their moveable and immovable property, in a manner that allows selling or transferring them to another location. We call on the UN Secretary-General and his envoy in Iraq to provide for the residents requests, including freedom of movement, access to lawyers, protection against any volatile measure or detention and mandatory relocations, and to recognize Camp Liberty as a refugee camp.
