Iraqi tribal sheikhs call for recognition of Liberty as refugee camp

Al Arab Al Yawm (Jordan), Baghdad, 7 Nov 2012 – 1800 Iraqi tribal sheikhs called for urgent action to improve the conditions of Iranian refugees in Camp Liberty and guarantee their well-being.
In a statement issued recently, the tribal sheikhs called on the United Nations High Commission on Refugees to recognize Camp Liberty as a refugee camp to end the obstacles and pressures imposed on Liberty residents.
They also called on the Iraqi government to allow PMOI members to sell all their assets and the UN to assume the guaranteeing of the selling process.
The tribal sheikhs stressed on the right to freedom of movement for Liberty residents and lifting of all sanctions on the Iraqi people visiting their brothers and sisters in Liberty.
They also called for human rights organizations and journalists to be allowed to enter Liberty to become informed of the conditions.
The tribal sheikhs added that following the removal of the name of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran from the US terrorist list, we announce with a loud and clear voice that the era of continuing to take advantage of these repulsive insults to carry on repression and pressure against them has come to an end.
