Iraqi National Dialogue Front: Delisting PMOI leaves no excuse for Iran to put pressure on Iraq for expelling Ashraf residents

Monday, February 02, 2009

In a statement, the Iraqi National Dialogue Front announced: “Removal of the unjust terrorist label from the PMOI by the EU made us happy because it is an explicit acknowledgement of the democratic world to the legitimacy of Iranian people’s just struggle for establishing a secular and democratic government in Iran; this is a great victory not only for the Iranian people, but for the Iraqi people and democratic forces who are suffering the Iranian regime’s meddling in Iraq.

We particularly congratulate this victory to the Ashraf residents who have been the guests of Iraqi people for 22 years and we stress that based on Iraq’s Constitution and legal opinions of greatest jurists of the world and Iraq, Ashraf residents are political refugees and protected persons under the Fourth Geneva Convention; and now after removal of the unjust terrorist label from the PMOI by 27 countries of the EU, the Iranian government has no more excuse to exert pressure on the Iraqi government to expel them.
