
Ahmed al-Alwani, Chairman of the Iraqi Parliament Economics Commission in Iraqi parliament and a senior Iraqiya Coalition member demanded a peaceful solution to the Ashraf problem.
“The deadline set by the Iraqi government is unreal,” al-Alwani stressed. “The case of Ashraf residents is an international issue and no other party is allowed to interfere.”
“For years, Ashraf residents have complied with the Iraqi and international rules,” he added. “All human rights organizations denounce attacks against Ashraf residents and consider it as an infringement of all international conventions.”
Rasem al-Owadi, a senior member of the Iraqi National Accord Movement, emphasized: “The Ashraf dilemma is an international issue. This problem can only be solved under UN supervision by peaceful means according to diplomatic principals, and also the participation of Ashraf residence in dialogue.”
Hamid Bafi, MP from the Kurdish Coalition emphasized on respecting human rights tenets and reverential practices towards Iranian refugees by the Iraqi government.
Atab al-Dori, MP from the Iraqiya Coalition condemned setting a deadline for Ashraf residents’ deportation and said: “This is an unjustifiable decision, because Ashraf residents are considered protected persons under international conventions.”
