Iraqi MP calls for release of seven Ashrafi hostages

Al-Hadath International News Agency, 27 Sep 2013 – Iraqi MP Ibrahim al-Mutlak from the Iraqiya slate called for the immediate release of the seven Ashrafi hostages.
“Our humane and moral duties obligate us to call for the release of these seven hostages who were in Camp Ashraf,” he said.
“These people were defenseless and it is not logical for them to be abducted in such an inhumane manner because they were under United Nations supervision and international law guarantees their protection,” al-Mutlak added.
“These individuals are guests of the Iraqi people, and abducting and killing them is absurd and is also considered a dangerous record,” this Iraqi MP continued.
“The duty of the current government is to release these individuals and not detain them, on the basis that they are refugees and covered by international laws,” he said. He called on the Iraqi government “to assume responsibility and release them immediately.”
Ibrahim Mutlak condemned the threats made by various government officials for repressive measures against Camp Liberty residents and called on international organizations to take action based on their legal responsibilities for the release of the detained individuals and protection of the refugees in Camp Liberty.”
