Iraq 4 All Website, Baghdad, 19 Dec 2012 – Following the second report issued by the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention announcing the situations in Ashraf and Liberty as similar to detention centers and in contrast to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, an Iraqi legal expert demanded Liberty be recognized as a refugee camp.
Ms. Lamis al-Qaban said the issuing of such a report by the UN shows the claims made by UN envoy Martin Kobler are lies and obligates us to call for the recognition of Liberty as a refugee camp based on international humanitarian standards.
Due to an unprecedented effort never seen before by the international community, the Iraqi government in cooperation with Iran is seeking to massacre these individuals, she added.
Right now in Camp Liberty serious inhumane aggressions are taking place that must not continue, Ms. al-Qaban stressed.
