Iraqi lawyers, jurists demand UNAMI monitoring team in Ashraf

The Iraqi Committee of Jurists in Defense of Ashraf called for a UNAMI monitoring team to permanently station in Camp Ashraf, Iraq’s Azzaman daily reported. This committee issued a statement on September 17th describing the installation of towers with espionage and parasite transmitting devices as a conspiracy against Ashraf residents. This committee added due to the fact that articles 15, 17 and 40 of Iraq’s Constitution prohibits tapping communications and espionage, this measure is considered a human rights violation. Furthermore, Article 9 of Law Number 158 (1980) also stresses punishments have been assigned for such acts.
This statement calls on the US forces in Iraq and the UN for a permanent presence of a UNAMI monitoring team in Ashraf. Numerous tapping devices have been installed around Camp Ashraf to conduct espionage on Ashraf residents, this statement explains, in addition to parasite transmitting equipment intended to disrupt the residents’ communications and Internet network. Currently there are two 15-meter towers installed in August at a distance of 100 meters from Ashraf’s southern fence.
