Statement of 30 Iraqi Kurdistan MPs and dignitaries:
Condemning turning Liberty into prison and any forceful relocation
UN responsibility on protecting Ashraf residents
Excerpts of this statement are as follows:
We announce we do not agree with any refugees being expelled from our country, and we call on the UN to assume the protection of these refugees based on the will of the international community to resolve this issue peacefully.
Ashraf residents agreed to transfer to Liberty to show good faith, but it was made clear very quickly that the Iraqi government recently has turned this site into a prison, and the residents are not being allowed to transfer their basic necessities and properties from Ashraf to this location.
For these reasons, if this transfer takes place it will bear a forceful nature, which is prohibited under international laws.
