Lebanon Arabic News Agency website, 18 October 2010 – The Iraqi Council for National Dialogue, led by Sheikh Khalaf al-Alian, issued a declaration describing the increase of pressure against Ashraf residents by Nouri Maliki’s forces as a campaign led by the Iranian regime.
“This regime is looking to utilize the tense security conditions and political void resulting from a delay in government formation and target Ashraf’s residents,” al-Alian said.
“We strongly condemn the actions of Iraqi forces against the unarmed residents of Camp Ashraf,” said the leader of the Iraqi Council for National Dialogue. “We decisively reject such hideous behavior and psychological torture inflicted on Ashraf residents. We call on international and human rights organizations to take a stance in support of Ashraf residents; and the UNAMI team must have a permanent presence in Ashraf to prevent another humane catastrophe from taking place in this camp.”
