The Iraq National Front headed by Dr. Mohammad al-Moussavi issued a letter to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon calling for immediate action to avert aggression against Ashraf residents by the Iranian regime’s Iraqi proxies. Dr. al-Moussavi went on to demand guarantees for the protection of Ashraf residents.
Recalling the brutal attack of January 7th carried out by the Iranian embassy’s hired Iraqi mob, this letter reads in part:
“The Iraqi forces not only backed the Iranian embassy’s hired thugs, they also were directly involved in this criminal act. We condemn these measures. As freedom-loving Iraqis who have been shocked by the inhumane crimes committed in Ashraf and, we would like to emphasize that over 40,000 Iraqis who supported Ashraf residents paid regular visits to the camp before 2009.
Having the support of 40,000 Iraqis in just one gathering is a backing that the current Iraqi leader has never been able to accomplish….Also, Ashraf residents enjoy the support of 5.2 million Iraqis and 3 million Shiites residents of the southern, central and Baghdad provinces. The Iraqi Shiites in this declaration had condemned Tehran and its criminal interferences in Iraq.”
The Iraq National Front further called on the UNSG: “Attack on Ashraf obligates the UN to condemn the atrocities that have and are taking place in Iraq, especially considering the events taking place in Ashraf because they are protected persons under international law.”
