With the 34th anniversary of the 1979 Iranian revolution against Shah’s rule nearing, Iranian dissidents in Paris called for a democratic Iran at a gathering entitled “Anniversary of Revolution, Change in 2013”, the Egyptian al-Wassat daily reported on Monday.
Former US House speaker and 2012 presidential candidate Newt Gingrich said the Iran Spring began in 2009 and now it is on the path of accomplishing its objectives. We must support the Iranian youth and people so they can reach their dreams of establishing freedom and democracy in an Iran without weapons of mass destruction and nuclear power plants that worries the people of Iran and the world, he said.
For the first time, a group of young Iranians from inside the country were able to take part in this conference to express their voice, emphasizing Ahmadinejad’s regime will crumble especially after the formation of National Liberation Army units inside the country by the Iranian Resistance to accelerate the regime’s overthrow.
Iranian Resistance leader Maryam Rajavi presented a ten-point platform for freedom, democracy, women’s participation, revoking the death penalty, respecting human rights, calling for a non-nuclear Iran and living in peace with countries of the region and the world.
These dissidents called on the Iranian people to boycott the upcoming June presidential elections in Iran, and emphasized on resolving the crisis of PMOI members in Iraq and returning them to Camp Ashraf due to the inadequate conditions of the current Camp Liberty in Iraq.
In the opening speech of the conference, French National Assembly member Dominique Lefebvre referred to a statement issued by the French National Assembly in support of Maryam Rajavi’s platform and to recognize the Iranian Resistance to bring about fundamental and democratic freedoms.
