Iran: PMOI satisfied after removal from US terror list

AFP (translated from French wire), Paris, 28 Sep 2012 – Iranian dissident group People’s Mojahedin expressed their satisfaction on Friday on the US State Department decision to remove them from the US’ black list of ‘terrorist’ organizations, describing it as a ‘correct decision’ allowing them to ‘better introduce themselves’.
The statement published in Paris states, “Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the National Council of Resistance for the period of transition of sovereignty to the Iranian people, welcomed and appreciated” the decision by Secretary Hillary Clinton.
“We hope to better introduce ourselves and our goals to the international community and American people,” the statement continues.

“This decision was difficult and required political courage,” added the statement of the organization, with its base located in Paris. The statement expresses hope that this US measure will facilitate the acceptance of their movement’s members – currently living in Iraq – in third countries.
“We propose a non-nuclear Iran, peace, security, democracy, human rights, stability, construction, friendship, and economic development in this region of the world as well as respect for international laws and conventions,” the statement continues.
For years, a face-off has placed Iran – suspected of attempting to obtain nuclear weapons – against Western powers, along with Russia and China.

“We are seeking change in Iran by the Iranian people and their just resistance. We want the sovereignty of the people and a free election,” the group added in its statement.
The State Department had announced last week Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has decided, in accordance to the law, to remove the PMOI and its affiliated members from the List of Foreign Terrorist Organizations.
A US court had asked Hillary Clinton to decide on eliminating or maintaining them on the list before October 1st.
