Iran opposition calls on West delegitimize mullahs’ regime

Middle East Online Website, Paris, 5 Dec 2012 – President of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (opposition in-exile) on Wednesday called on France and the European Union “to recognize the Iranian Resistance” for regime change in Tehran, similar to their measure on Syria.

“The West’s biggest political error has been to ignore the key movement for change in Iran. A resistance endowed with deep roots in the Iranian society, with a democratic coalition of various groups of the opposition, with more of 50% of its senior officials being women,” said Maryam Rajavi in her speech at the French National Assembly.

“International sanctions against Iran have been positive measures but they will only be effective if the West changes policy towards the resistance. The only solution in Iran is regime change of by the Iranian people and Resistance”, Rajavi emphasized.
“The French government, that played a leading role in recognizing of the Syrian resistance, should take the initiative of a new policy in the European Union,” Rajavi said.

The NCRI President enjoyed the support of a group of 10 deputies from across the political spectrum signing a petition calling on the government to “recognize the Iranian resistance to establish democracy in Iran”.

Maryam Rajavi condemned Tehran’s policies of “stirring the flames of war throughout the Middle East” by supporting the Assad regime in Syria, sending weapons to Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon and continuing its nuclear program.
In mid-October, the NCRI held a conference in Paris with 3,000 participants.
“The terrorist list, which protected the religious fascism against the waves of change and freedom, has now crumbled. In the true sense of the phrase, the balance of power between our resistance movement and the clerical regime has been tilted,” Rajavi said in her speech, adding “such a change is part and parcel of the project to overthrow the clerical regime.”
“The delisting of the PMOI has removed the twenty-year-old chains of a competent movement that can act as the fulcrum for a great change,” she continued.
“One of the most important results of the PMOI’s delisting was the increase in morale and self-confidence”, and “made possible the regrouping of the resistance movement inside Iran, as well as the ability to expand and link together the Resistance’s units”, Rajavi added.
