Al Babeliya TV conducted an interview with Dr. Mohammed Sheikhli, Iraqi jurist, President of the National Justice Center, on the issues of the delisting of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran from the US terrorist list and the ‘Iran Spring’.
Will the PMOI lead the winds of change in Iran?
The PMOI accomplished a tremendous victory in the removing of its name from the terrorist list, while inflicting a heavy defeat to the mullahs’ regime in Qom. Following the winds of change amongst the Persians, whom the regime had taken measures to suppress and plunder all the rights of this nation under the cloak of religion, this decision has brought hope for the Iranian people to annihilate this regime.
Dr. Mohammad Sheikhli: This great victory accomplished by the PMOI is a legal and judicial victory, and a political victory with strategic dimension.
Accusing the PMOI because they are the largest organized movement that defends a democratic, moderate and tolerant Islam against the fundamentalist and terrorist mullahs’ regime was nothing but a gift to the fundamentalists and terrorist in the mullahs’ regime that carry out massacres in the name of Islam.
This victory will provide an opportunity to the Iranian people, represented in their legitimate resistance being the PMOI, to express itself against a regime that has been imposed upon them since 1979. As a result, we are facing a period of serious change inside Iran and the region.
We are heading for a period that God willing, will be the period of freedom from this regime at the hands of the Iranian people and their legitimate resistance, or their legitimate opposition, which is represented in the PMOI.
Anchorwoman: Dr. Sheikhli, what will be the nature of the confrontations against this regime in the future, and who will participate in this faceoff and what will be the timing of this? Do you think Iran will provide such an opportunity for the PMOI to play its role in the political scene, or will it prevent this role through force?
Dr. Mohammad Sheikhli: We are facing an important and historic period and we know the mullahs’ regime will not provide the Iranian people and their representatives in the Iranian opposition and the Iranian resistance this opportunity to play their role. However, nations will always assume their role.
Anchorwoman: In your opinion, from this armed faceoff between Iran and the US, how can the PMOI take advantage of this tension in relations?
Dr. Mohammad Sheikhli: The probable confrontation between the free world and this dictatorial and criminal regime is very near. As much as our eyes are set on the Iranian people to be freed from this regime, we haven’t set our eyes on foreign military confrontation.
Anchorwoman: Do you think the PMOI has a popular base in Iran to lead the winds of change in Iran?
Dr. Mohammad Sheikhli: First of all, everyone knows what popular base the PMOI has inside Iran, and everyone knows to what extent the Iranian people believe in the values and principles of the PMOI and the challenges it has faced in the harshest of periods in the mullahs’ regime in Tehran. Thousands of PMOI members and supporters have been martyred by the mullahs’ forces and despite all these executions and arrests, we see the Iranian people standing in a united front supporting the PMOI and its president-elect Mrs. Maryam Rajavi. This is something resembled in various occasions where the number of supporters abroad taking part in these gatherings were at least 100,000 coming from all corners of the globe. This is a strong reason of this organization having a popular base.
Anchorwoman: I wanted to ask an important question that exists in our discussion. How is the PMOI rebuilding its ranks after the new accomplishments of this organization?
Dr. Mohammad Sheikhli: Definitely the PMOI doesn’t need a new strategy. This organization has a clear strategy from the time of its perseverance against the Shah and Khomeini. As a result, the Iranian people have faith in the fundamental principles of the PMOI. This organization has such immense popular assets and popular support inside and outside Iran that one cannot imagine. Thus, we see that the Iranian people say the last word under the leadership of the PMOI, the National Council of Resistance of Iran and its president Mrs. Maryam Rajavi. They will also say their last word very soon and we hope the Iranian people will be freed from this regime and be able to play their role in the region and the world based on international standards, laws and agreements, and become an Iran having a moderate Islam far from this dictatorship that destroyed the people and Iran.
