In the fourth day of Geneva sit-in, Mgr. Jacques Gaillot, the progressive and humanitarian French priest and Mr. Gilles Paruelle, former head of Bar Association in Val d’Oise, and Mr. Osborn Halmstrand, from Sweden’s Amnesty International activists, delivered speeches in the sit-in gathering and emphasized the Multi National Force and the United States’ obligation in observing the international law and protection of Ashraf residents.
Bishop Gaillot said: We all know that the clerical regime can not tolerate Ashraf, particularly because the Iraqi people and tribes support them, and this is unbearable for the mullahs; that is why we ask the UN organs and the ICRC to guarantee Ashraf residents’ rights and continuation of protection of Ashraf by the Multi National forces and the U.S.
Mr. Gilles Paruelle said: The Ashraf residents have been officially liable to Geneva Fourth Convention since July 2004. The US officials have assumed implementation of this convention and the US has responsibility regarding Ashraf protection. I have always supported Ashraf residents and their families. Your struggle is our struggle and I continue this support in memory of those days I was in Ashraf.
Mr. Osborn Halmstrand said in his speech: The Iranian regime is really a bloody religious dictatorship which has drawn Iraq into crisis; this regime is a threat to the region and the to whole world. As all of you, I also ask all the relevant international bodies to prevent transfer of Ashraf protection from the American forces and not to allow it whatsoever.
In this sit-in a delegation of PMOI martyrs’ mothers and families of Ashraf residents, while carrying pictures of their hero children went behind the tribune. On behalf of them, Mother Koushali, said: “We are here and stay here, whatever the condition might be, until we receive the guarantees on protection of our loved ones.”
Also a number of NCRI members delivered speeches and emphasized the need for Ashraf protection by the Coalition Forces and the U.S. Government.
