Former Presidential candidate in Colombia, Ms. Ingrid Betancourt gave an emotional speech at the Grand Gathering of the Iranian Resistance on June 13, 2015 where more than 600 dignitaries from 70 countries also participated. Ms. Betancourt said: “Hundreds of leaders coming from all over the world, tens of delegations of the whole planet and 100,000 men and women gathered today to say two words, two words: No; No to the regime of the mullah. No to those who have enslaved half of the population, making a regime that has empowered men to torture women in their own homes, their wives, their daughters, their mothers. No to the regime of the mullah who has legalized the rape of women who have to jump out of windows to be saved of being raped by officials of the regime of the mullah, and No to the regime of the mullah. No to the regime of the mullah who has legalized disfiguring women because of their gender and throwing acid to their faces because wanting to diminish the power and the influence of women in Iran and No, no to the regime of the mullahs.
She continued to say, “the second word is yes. Yes to an opposition, a democratic opposition organized to defend freedom and democracy. We are today celebrating the 50th of the MEK. Yes to backup and to support a legal opposition for a democratic change in Iran.
