Gen. Hugh Shelton: Iran is the greatest threat in the Middle East

• America did guarantee their safety and security. We should not say we no longer have a role in that, just because we are no longer in Iraq
• Any attack on them, is an attack against America
• Madam Rajavi’s 10 points is like American declaration of Independent

A live TV interview with Gen. Hugh Shelton, former chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff on C. Span
Q:
Thank you Gen.  Hugh Shelton. When we talk about ISIS and terrorism, Iran is the biggest threat in the Middle East. Iran is funding and supporting terrorist groups in Syria. Iranian regime should be out of the political equation in Middle East. My question to the general is, if the general was going to advise President Obama and recommend, would you recommend supporting the MEK, and Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, president elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran? And would you go for the regime change in Iran instead of false appeasement policy for 3 decades?
Gen. Shelton: Thank you for your question and kind comments. I would tell you right up front. Iran is the major source of our problems through the Middle East. Let’s don’t forget that Iran is the greatest exporter of terrorism in the world. Let’s not forget that Iran is pursuing a nuclear capability, and in spite of the nuclear arms talks, they have steadfastly refused to give up their Uranium enrichment program and reducing their ballistic missile stockpiles. They are a problem and they are not part of the solution, they are part of the problem. So, I would tell you right up front, I would first and foremost put Iran to the side. I would not let them get involved in Iraq in any shape or form. All they would do is to use that as an on tray to strengthen their position in Iraq, a position that they had all along with Maliki. Al-Maliki is an Iranian puppet and so the next thing I would tell Prime Minister al-Ebadi to do this moment is to turn to the MEK, the Iranian dissidents that are stationed right now at Camp Liberty. Let’s treat them as human being, let’s start treating them as citizens and giving them freedom of movement. Let them have hospital care, let’s let them take the sewage water out of their camp. Let’s quit treat them as criminals. They are the enemy of Iran, and Iran is the greatest threat that we face in the Middle East.
If you look at Madam Rajavi’s 10 points, it reads like American declaration of Independent. She is in favor of freedom of religion, freedom of press, all the thing hold near and dear here in America. And so, why should they not be a friend of America and why should not we support them? I would tell Prime Minister al-Ebadi that we expect them of that. After all, American did guarantee their safety and their security. We should not say we no longer have a role in that, just because we are no longer in Iraq. We need to let Prime Minister al-Ebadi know that he should treat them as if they were American citizens and any attack on them, is an attack against America.”
Gen. Hue Shelton added: “Basically, what I would say is we have got to treat Iran as the part of the problem and not as the part of the solution. However, if Iran has some constructive role they think they can play in this, we should be open to hearing them. But let’s don’t fall prey to their propaganda. Let’s don’t give them an on tray back in to Iraq to strengthen the position that they now have lost. Let’s watch very carefully what they are talking about when they say they can help us in Syria. Because they have been very destructive in Syria and I don’t see them getting by. Let’s not forget that Iran wants to be the key player in the Middle East. They want to be the one that everyone in the Middle East has to cater to, has to listen to. And we saw that in Iraq with the influence they exerted over Maliki, basically he became an Iranian puppet. And I do believe that Iran would continue to pursue that to the last degree. They are not going to give up to their long term goals. And therefore we need to watch them like a hawk.”
Q: good morning Gen. Shelton, thank you very much for sharing your time with us. My question is Islamic extremists in Iran is now a days gauging eyes, lashing people in public, hanging people in public and cutting hand or in Iraq with its terrible actions that they are committing. These are all done by the Islamic extremists as the enemy of everyone. What roll a democratic Islam represented by leaders such as Madam Rajavi can play to repel these extremists ideology, what we could do to hurt them?
Gen. Shelton: Thank you. That’s a great comment. I think Madam Rajavi represents what United States holds near and dear to our heart and that is that she wants to have an inclusive government, she wants to have the one that is in favor of all the freedom that I talked about earlier, freedom of press, freedom of religion and etc.  Things that we feel are right in a democratic system. Madam Rajavi represents that. She also the leader of the Iranian dissident group that is outside of Iran who wants to see Iran gets rid of the mullahs’ that are now in charge right now, that are executing individuals left and right, the highest rate  of executions in the last year in any time in their history. This is a very serious thing, the Iranian people deserve better than that and that’s what she’ll like to carry back to Iran. Individuals like Madam Rajavi and others who see the damage that the extremists are doing that make them, to my opinion, valuable allies in the United States’ fight against these type of extremists, ISIS or ISIL in this case or against ISIS and ISIL in Syria.
