Former US Congressman Mervyn Dymally passes away

With the utmost regret we have been informed that former US Congressman Mervyn Dymally, a strong supporter of the Iranian Resistance, passed away at the age of 86.
Before being elected as a Member of Congress, Mervyn Dymally served as Deputy Governor of California, and he is remembered as one of the first activists who fought against segregation in the US.
Mr. Dymally, Democrat from California, for years presided over the Sub-Committee of International Operations and Africa under the House Foreign Affairs Committee. He was also one of the first supporters of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran and Iranian Resistance in the US Congress.
Mervyn Dymally was the first US Member of Congress to visit Camp Ashraf in 1989 and meet with Iranian Resistance leader Massoud Rajavi.
A statement registered in the US Congress in 1992, through an initiative led by Mr. Dymally that also gained the support of 219 House members, states the time has come for the free world to stand in one front alongside those who are struggling for peace and democracy against the Iranian regime. The National Council of Resistance of Iran, led by Mr. Massoud Rajavi, by announcing a specific agenda and indicating responsible policies, has shown it is determined in the face of international developments and is willing to participate in peace and stability of this sensitive region, the statement added.
The strong popular and religious roots of this resistance amongst the Iranian people are the most important obstacles against the Iranian regime’s misuse of the people’s religious beliefs. Therefore, this resistance is the real solution against the phenomenon of religious restitution and sectarianism, the statement continued.
Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the Iranian Resistance, expressed her regret on the passing of Mr. Mervyn Dymally, the clairvoyant California representative in the US Congress, and the dear supporter of the Iranian people’s resistance. Mrs. Rajavi also presented her condolences to the respectful Dymally family, to his colleagues in the US Congress and all supporters of the Iranian Resistance in the United States, and wished Mr. Dymally’s soul will rest in peace.
