Egyptian Lawyers Union Chairman called on UN to support PMOI in Iraq

Iraq-4-All Website, 11 Oct, 2012 – Egyptian lawyer and Chairman of the Lawyers Union for Legal and Democratic Studies, Shadi Tal’at, said that the US State Department decision to remove the PMOI from the terrorist list is the US’ correction of a mistake that had continued for a long period of time.
He called on the UN to adopt a decisive position vis-à-vis the limitations imposed on member of the PMOI in Iraq.
Tal’at said in a press statement: “The decision to remove this organization from the terrorist list was made with a long delay, taking into mind that Washington paid no attention to the suppression of the people longing for freedom in their country. The Iranian people are under suppression and among its main reasons is the designation of the PMOI as a terrorist organization. In my view, delisting the PMOI is correcting the mistake that continued for a long period of time.
“The mistreatment and inhumane behavior towards PMOI members in Iraq must end. Therefore, first of all I call on the UN to adopt a decisive position in this regard and for its representative in Iraq to take a helpful stance towards this organization.
“I also call on jurists around the world to officially request to visit camps Ashraf and Liberty. These two camps must be opened to jurists who are endeavoring to visit them.
“Taking into mind that a repressive regime is ruling in Iran and the Iranian people are under its pressure and this country will only be freed at the hands of this organization, all jurists must support the PMOI.”
