Mrs. Hillary R. Clinton
Secretary of State

U.S. Department of State

Dear Mrs. Secretary,
Just this morning we became aware of some unexpected storming of Iraqi police forces into Ashraf Camp, home of over 3400 members of the Iranian opposition. Since the camp’s security is in Iraqi forces hand this is considered unnecessary and harsh act in behalf of the Iranian regime. This act is at odd with Iraqi government commitment to American Embassy to respect the rights of Ashraf residences.
Up to now Iraqi government has not recognized the rights of Ashraf residents despite its international obligation and the demand of European parliament on April 24th which call for the Iraq to respect the rights of Ashraf residents as per the Geneva Conventions to end the siege
of the camp, and refrain from forcibly displacing, deporting, or expelling the residents in violation of the principle of non-refoulement.
In Mr.Zibarie’s visit to Tehran of last week once again he was told by president Ahmadinejad and Saeed Jalili secretary of supreme National Security Council to honor the bilateral agreements to close the camp and expel its residents. The exact promise Mr.Mowafaque Al-Rubei made before.
What we are witnessing today is the direct result of these pressures from Iranian government which could lead to a human catastrophe.
To stop this catastrophe to happen your personal intervention to ask Iraqi police inside to leave the camp is urgently needed.
