Australian Labor Party issued a resolution in support of Ashraf residents

In Melbourne province, Australia, the Labor Party (the ruling party) ratified a resolution in support of Ashraf residents and asked the Australian government to guarantee continuation of PMOI members’ protection by the Multi National Force.

This resolution partly reads: In July 2004, the PMOI members in Camp Ashraf were granted “protected person” status under the Fourth Geneva Convention, and they are presently protected by the Multi National Force. In June 2006, more than 5.2 million Iraqis and in June 2008 three million Iraqi Shiites, in separate statements, described the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI) as a major obstacle against Islamic fundamentalism and extremism exported to Iraq by the Iranian regime.

The resolution added: According to Amnesty International, The Reporters without Borders and others, forcible expulsion of the PMOI is flagrant violation of the International Humanitarian Law; transfer of Ashraf residents’ protection will impose a grave security and safety danger on them. In addition to committing a crime against humanity, the Iranian regime intends to get rid of its opposition in order to expand its meddling in Iraq freely.

The Australian Labor Party resolution also asked Australian government to guarantee that the protection of the PMOI members will be continued by the Multi National Force and remind the ICRC the necessity of the Ashraf residents’ protection through a memorandum
It also asked the Australian government to remove terrorist label from the PMOI and condemn the Iranian regime for victimizing the PMOI.
