
The Australian Foreign Affairs Ministry, in a letter to Peter Murphy, head of the Canadian Committee of Friendship with the people of Iran, announced: Representatives of the Australian government expressed their concern over Camp Ashraf to the Iraqi government, and in any opportunity share the concerns of this government regarding Camp Ashraf with the Iraqi government. These concerns include the set up of speakers around the camp by elements of the Iranian regime. The letter of the Australian Foreign Affairs Ministry addressed to Peter Murphy reads:
-The government of Australia condemns all accounts of human rights violations and is concerned over the recent attacks and events in Camp Ashraf.
– To this day, the government of Australia has sent numerous delegations to Iraqi ministers and officials in this regard, the latest being a delegation of high ranking officials on November 8, 2010 in Canberra.
– These representatives expressed the expectations of the Australian government towards the need to respect the human rights regarding Camp Ashraf to Iraqi officials. They also expressed that the Iraqi government does not have the right to extradite any of the residents.
-Representatives of the Australian government also notified Iraqi officials of the concerns of the Australian community regarding the conditions of Camp Ashraf.
The Australian government is re-evaluating its embassy’s approach in Baghdad towards monitoring Camp Ashraf and in any opportunity it expresses the concerns of the Australian government to the government of Iraq.
This also included concerns over the mounted speakers outside of the Camp.
The government of Australia is concerned over not finding a reliable solution for Camp Ashraf residents and so persuades the government of Iraq and Ashraf officials to endeavor to find a fundamental solution.
The government of Australia also calls on both sides to refrain from provoking measures.
The government of Australia applauds the active intervention of the UN Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI) regarding the issue of Camp Ashraf. UNAMI is constantly monitoring Ashraf and will continue to observe the situation and council with Ashraf representatives and the Australian Embassy has participated in a number of the UNAMI missions in Ashraf.
