The Arabic Organization of Human Rights, stationed in Cairo, with consulting grade in the UN Socio-Economical Council released a statement and asked for guarantee of Ashraf residents’ rights based on non-refoulement principle, International Humanitarian Law, and Geneva conventions and asked the United Nations to supervise observance of these rights.
This statement partly reads: “Ashraf residents are political refugees, and according to the international treaty for refugees, they are under protection, and repatriating them to Iran will put them in danger of torture and threatens their lives and health; specially that some of the arrested members of this organization have been executed in Evin prison. Also the Iranian opposition circles abroad speak of arrest of a number of their family members in Iran.”
The Arabic Organization of Human Rights underscored:”Forcible migration of Ashraf residents violates non-refoulement principle and the principles of International Refugees Convention, Convention against Torture, and the International Humanitarian Law.”
This Organization called on the Iraqi and US governments for observance of Ashraf residents’ rights.
The Arabic Organization of Human Rights also asked the UN Secretary General and the UN representative to Iraq to employ necessary measures to guarantee Ashraf residents’ rights.
