Appointing special envoy for Ashraf will solve this crisis: Iraqi MP

Azzaman daily, Baghdad, 2 Oct 2011 – Iraqi MP Hessam Abdul-karim (Iraqiya Coalition) described the appointment of a special envoy for Camp Ashraf as an important step to present support and assistance regarding the case of Ashraf, naming this a supporting element to solve this crisis.
“Appointing an envoy for Camp Ashraf is an act of support by the UN to solve this case, especially since Camp Ashraf residents are refugees covered by the Fourth Geneva Convention,” he said today in remarks to the press.
“Providing refuge for Ashraf residents is not considered intervention in Iran’s affairs, considering the fact that they are refugees and Iraq’s guests,” he added. “Like other refugees in various countries around the world, they must be respected and their rights recognized, and the siege imposed against them – which is in violation of international humanitarian laws – must be brought to an end.”
“After Ashraf residents were placed under enormous pressure, this measure is an important step,” Abdol-karim explained.
