
Afghan national parties and dignitaries issued statements and letters calling for international protection to be provide for Ashraf residents and their rights guaranteed under international laws.
Professor Sebghat-ollah Mojaddedi, former President of Afghanistan, who currently heads an independent commission assigned to resolve disputes between the Afghan people and their government, along with Mokhless-addin Mojahed, Governor of Ghandahar Province and the members of this province council joined 12 political, social and cultural parties and over 500 prominent dignitaries from throughout the country in issuing letters and signing statements to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, UN SRSG Martin Kobler and other UN organs and officials condemning the three year long siege imposed on Ashraf and the Iraqi forces’ attacks against the residents in July 2009 and 2011 that left dozens killed and hundreds wounded.
These prominent Afghan dignitaries included MPs, party leaders, tribal leaders, university professors, physicians, engineers, writers and journalists from all across Afghanistan. These dignitaries expressed their support for Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the Iranian Resistance agreeing with a peaceful solution for the Ashraf crisis and regarded as unacceptable any type of compulsory relocation for Ashraf residents. They stressed on guaranteeing the following for the residents:
– Transfer of all Ashraf residents to Camp Liberty must be without any exception under international supervision and in safe and secure manner.
– Residents must be allowed to take their movable items and also sell their unmovable belongings and property.
– The stationing of Iraqi forces in the new location must be in a method that the residents, especially considering the presence of 1,000 women, have adequate security.
– Supervision be provided by the UN and US until the reconfirmation of Ashraf residents’ refugee status and the transfer of the last person to third countries.
– Ending the 3-year long blockade of Ashraf and all threats and harassments must be stopped.
