61 Mayors in France urge EU to de-list PMOI

On Wednesday, September 24, a press conference was held in City Hall of Cergy, capital of Val-d’Oise province in France, with the presence of Messrs Dominique Lefevbre, Mayor of Cergy, Jean-Pierre Béquet, the mayor of Auvers-sur-Oise and former member of the French Parliament, Jean-Pierre Muller, mayor of Mannie en Vexin, Dr. Saleh Rajavi, representative of the National Council of Resistance of Iran(NCRI) in France, Mehdi Abrishamchi, chairman of Peace Commission of the NCRI and Afshin Alavi, member of Foreign Relation Commission of NCRI.

In their declaration, 61 mayors of Val-d’Oise province of France expressed their support of “Third Option” of Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the Iranian Resistance, for democratic change in Iran and announced: “Keeping the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI) in the European Union’s terrorist List is a significant obstacle preventing a regime change in Iran. The EU Council of Ministers under presidency of France must apply the judicial decisions and the will of those elected by the European People and should remove the PMOI from its list.

Dominique Le Lefevbre, mayor of Cergy, said in his speech: “For municipality of Cergy, defense of freedom and respect for democracy is a fundamental matter; support of the Iranian resistance against mullahs’ regime is a serious issue. The PMOI has been included in the terrorist list due to political interests and is not acceptable.”

Jean-Pierre Béquet, the mayor of Auvers-sur-Oise, said: “We are here as representatives of 61 mayors who have defended the law values and democratic decisions. We have been in contact with the NCRI representatives since long time ago, and the scandal that has been created because of keeping PMOI in the terrorist list illegally has made us concerned. The decisions of different courts in Luxemburg and London indicate that this organization shouldn’t be put in the list.
