6 International Human Rights Organizations urged for release of 36 Ashraf residents

A number of the international human rights organizations in different countries called for immediate release of the 36 abducted hostages by the Iraqi government.
International Society for Human Rights (ISHR) in Australia, Citizens’ Watch of St. Petersburg of Russia, The Kyrgyz Committee for Human Rights, International Society for Human Rights – Sweden, Institute of Peace and Democracy- Azerbaijan, and Mouvement internationale de la Réconciliation- MADAGASCAR asked the immediate intervention of the relevant international organizations to save the lives of 36 abducted Ashraf residents. They urged Nouri Maliki’s government to abide by law and implement the court’s ruling on immediate release of 36 Ashraf residents.

Addressing Ban Ki-moon, UN Secretary General, some of these organizations wrote : ” During the 28 and 29 July attacks against residents of Camp Ashraf in Iraq, 36 residents were abducted, and after sustaining tortures and mistreatments were transferred to a police detention centre in town of Khalis.
On September 27, 2009, the Court of Khalis for the third time ruled to their release. According to the Judge, the verdict is definite and unconditional, and no official can prevent implementation of their release order but unfortunately the police continued to keep them in detention unlawfully.
Considering that the 36 detainees, entering their month of hunger strike, are in a very serious physical and health conditions and by taking in consideration the court verdict; we ask the Iraqi government to immediately release the detainees. It is obvious now that there are no reasons to keep them under detention other than that they are held at the behest of the Iranian regime.
The political maneuvering with fate and lives of 36 residents of Ashraf, not only will not benefit the Iraqi government, but will cause the government to lose its international credibility.
The responsibility of any catastrophe concerning the life of the 36 detainees will be on the government of Iraq. “
