5500 French mayors and elected representatives of the people called for protection of Camp Ashraf residents. These prominent French officials included authorities from the city, province and regional councils, who signed a statement calling on the French government to cooperate with the UN, US and EU to provide protection for Ashraf residents and implement the UNHCR’s measures to reconfirm their political refugee status.
The signatories, consisting of 5 heads of regions, 21 heads of provincial councils, 69 mayors who are also members of the French Senate and 187 mayors who are also members of the French National Assembly, called for urgent measures in this regard. These French representatives in their statement called for the cancellation of the 3 year long siege imposed on Ashraf, an end to the psychological torture of the residents through 300 loudspeakers encircling the camp, and Ashraf residents’ open access to their lawyers and medical services. This statement also expressed its support for the requests raised by Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the Iranian Resistance as minimum guarantees for the relocation of Ashraf residents to Camp Liberty.
