Statement on the release of
Iranian refugee detainees of Ashraf

We, members of the Jordanian Parliament and signatories of this statement, are calling for the immediate release of the 36 Iranian detainees who reside in Camp Ashraf, Iraq. Following the assault of the Iraqi forces on their camp where 11 of the residents became martyred and 500 were wounded, the unarmed residents of this camp are under siege. Man and woman, they have resorted to a hunger strike which is on its fortieth day.
Preventing the release of these detainees and keeping them in prison is a violation of all international covenants and conventions on the protection of refugees; especially in the light that the Iraqi court in Khalis has ordered for their release.
We call for the intervention of all international and humanitarian parties to gain the release of these detainees and to repeal the cordon on Ashraf. In addition, we support the demand of Ashraf residents for security in their camp and the stationing of an international force to protect future raids on them.
