AP, United Nations, 13 Jan 2012 – A top U.S. official says China might think twice about its dependence on Iranian oil.
Speaking Friday in an interview with MSNBC, U.S. Ambassador Susan Rice disputed the characterization that China had rejected Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner’s appeal to help bring sanctions on Iranian oil in order to rein in that country’s nuclear ambitions’ I think China is a rational actor and understands that the steps we’ve taken make everybody who is a purchaser of Iranian oil think twice about whether they want to maintain such a high degree of dependence on Iran or look for other sources of oil,’ Rice told MSNBC.
‘I am confident that China, too, sees the writing on the wall.’ China depends on Iran for 11 percent of its oil imports.
