Uprising was just a “small fire” in Iran

Iran, April 28, 2018 – For those claiming Iran’s protests have died down, recent remarks made by Fazel Mobeidi, a member of the Qom sanctuary and considered a high figure in the Iranian regime, shed more light on the fact that Iran is a powder keg society about to explode.

“Those witnessing (Tehran’s) Plasco complex building fire and the storeowners believed the fire within had been contained, not aware of the fire simmering deep down.

Smoke rises up from the Plasco building where firefighters work to extinguish a fire in central Tehran, Iran, January 19, 2017.

When the building began crumbling down before the surprised eyes of those watching, they finally began to comprehend the power of the fire within,” he said.

“Social and political developments in our country’s history have also been full of such deeply rooted fires; fires that surprise all in an instant, leaving a pile of dust in places not forecasted by anyone.

“The truth is that in these current conditions our society is engulfed with deep-rooted fires… What we witnessed in the 2017/2018 protests was a small portion of that fire’s smoke…”

Iran’s regime is in a deadlock in the face of growing protests.

“In the past four decades, the more we advanced, the more we resorted to security/police/judicial solutions. These solutions, however, pave the path for fires similar to the Plasco incident, hiding the obvious fires and sending a message that the crisis has been contained.

“Security and judiciary solutions will only lead to a very superficial calm. This is only the cover of the entire story.”
