Mohammad Ismaeel Saeedi, a member of the Iran parliament Social Committee, poured cold water on claims made by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and his cabinet of making new economic breakthroughs in Iran.
“Last year’s unprecedented economic recession delivered a severe blow to employment,” he said to state-run news agencies. “Despite the fact that government officials and the president himself have time and again emphasized recession has come to an end, there is yet to be any sign of economic development.”
“According to government officials the Ministry of Trade, Labor and Social Welfare is responsible for all labor issues. However, under the constitution the government is responsible for creating jobs for people from all walks of life. Although to this day no ministry considers itself responsible for employment and will not provide any answers in this regard. Currently, unemployment remains in double digits and if such conditions continue it will most definitely not play into the society’s interest,” he added.
