
The UN Human Rights Council voted with 29 in favor of a total of 47 votes passing a resolution banning death sentences across the globe.
Based on the foundation set by the ratified resolution, the UN Human Rights Council is to establish a committee in relation to executions. One of the duties of this committee is to be pursuant that the issue of revoking executions remains on the UN agenda. The Human Rights Council also called for executions of criminals who were under the age of 18 at the time of their crime be halted. Prior to this resolution, other bills were passed by the UN, including a UN General Assembly calling for a suspension of executions until the laws of executions are revoked.
