UN chief calls for abolition of death penalty

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon marked World Day Against Execution by calling on all countries to abolish the death penalty.
The death penalty will neither prevent drug crimes, nor will it protect people against drug addiction, he said.
He repeated the UN call for abolishing the death penalty, emphasized on reforming judiciary systems and social-economic conditions in various countries in order to obliterate any grounds for crime in the first place.
