British Foreign Office’s minister for the Middle East, Alistair Burt described UN investigator Ahmad Shaheed’s report on human rights violations in Iran as concerning, the UK foreign ministry website reported.
The report issued by the UN Special Rapporteur on human rights violations in Iran is concerning, Burt said, adding the Iranian regime is continuing to violate its human rights obligations and citizens’ freedoms. This regime has made no changes in its approach towards citizens’ rights, he continued.
Last year the Iranian regime had highest number of executions, Burt said, the highest number of arrests of religious minorities and intellectuals, freedom of speech is repressed, and reporters and human rights activists are jailed in this country.
